This monument, one of the first monumental ones in post-war Moldova, is the work of a group of sculptors and architects under the leadership of L. Dubinovschi.
The monument was solemnly installed in 1954 on Kotovsky Square, on the 36th anniversary of the Soviet Army. On the front side of the pedestal, there is a bronze shield with the inscription «Kotovsky Grigory Ivanovich. 1881—1925».
The monument reaches a height of twelve meters, the weight of the bronze sculpture is about twenty tons, and the sword alone weighs 95 kilograms. The pedestal, made of red polished granite, is framed by a wreath carved from granite. The work on the monument lasted about four years. The bronze casting was made at the Mytishchi plant near Moscow.
