In the village of Hodjinesti, in Călărași district, pottery traditions go back more than a single decade. Vasile Gonchar is one of the most vivid representatives of pottery in Moldova, whose ancestors also made ceramic dishes. Gonchar House "Vasile Gonchar"
Regardless of your age, everyone will enjoy Vasile Gonchar's house, because you will become a true guest at the celebration of pottery, in the world of clay magic. Here you can learn the history of pottery in the world and in Moldova, touch various objects, and learn the stages and features of producing ceramic items. Of course, you will have the opportunity to take part in a master class and perhaps create a real masterpiece from clay yourself.
One of the significant events in the whole history of pottery was September 2019, when Vasile made the largest clay vessel in the entire history of Moldova, with a volume of 2000 liters, a height of more than two meters and a diameter of one and a half meters. The master assures that there is no such huge vessel here, nor in neighbouring countries – Ukraine or Romania. Making the vessel took 33 days and about 400 kilograms of clay. Such a large vessel required an enormous kiln, which was built specially for this record. Today the record-holding vessel is on public display.
During the tour of the workshop, museum and potter's house, you will learn the remarkable story of Vasile's return home from Italy, where he gained worldwide fame.
