The official opening of the municipal enterprise "Zoological Garden" took place on 9 May 1978 in the Botanica sector. Initially, the zoo had only 60 species of animals. Chișinău Zoo
At present, the institution's collection numbers about 1,000 birds and animals. 10 animal species are included in the international conservation programme. Dozens of animals represent species listed in the International Red Book and the Red Book of the Republic of Moldova.
Tours are also held here, there is a young biologists' club, a rural farmyard (where children can get acquainted with domestic animals and birds) and children's playgrounds.
