A 25-meter pyramid of five stylized bayonets and an Eternal Flame at the center of a star — Chisinau's main war memorial leaves a mark even on visitors who just came for a walk. Along the alley, 155 marble plaques bear the names of fallen soldiers, and six stone steles tell the full chronology of World War II. On May 9th the atmosphere becomes something else entirely — thousands arrive with flowers, a memorial bell rings, and a long queue forms at the Eternal Flame.
