Established in October 1945, immediately after World War II, the Republican Puppet Theatre «Licurici» («Firefly») remains an exceptional cultural center, presenting shows for all ages. The theatre began its activity with the performance «Tereemok» by S. Marshak within the Moldovan-Russian-Ukrainian cultural connections established immediately after the war.
Its professionalism and beautiful spiritual traditions annually attract about 100 thousand spectators to its hall, presenting over 500 shows - both in the country and abroad. For 75 years, the theatre has staged over 300 shows based on the most famous fairy tales by G. H. Andersen, Brothers Grimm, Carlo Collodi, A. de Saint-Exupéry, G. Rodari, A. S. Pushkin, N. V. Gogol, M. Eminescu, Ion Creangă. As well as works by contemporary Moldovan playwrights, such as P. Cărare, G. Urschi, E. Plugăru, V. Grosu, A. Strâmbănu, I. Filip, V. Boldișor, G. Vieru and others.
